(compilation album 1997)
limited release only in Japan from hyperdisc / Toshiba EMI (TOCP-50319)

What started out as a promotional campaign to launch a new line of sportswear company, Plenty Tough Sport Clothing, in Japan, quickly became a sound explosion featuring the best of Santa Monica's eclectic underground.

The SOUNDS OF SANTA MONICA compilation combines a hybrid of musical styles including Electronica, Trip-Hop, Dance, Hip-Hop, and Jungle music as well as a wide range of musical talents. Featured on the compilation are the mega-hot team of producers, The Dust Brothers, whose credits include the Rolling Stones, Hanson, and Beck. The Dust Brothers have contributed the talents of SOUNDS OF SANTA MONICA artists Sukia and 10 Cent from their Nicklebag Records label. Also featured on the album are U.K Hitmaker Halloran, Hip-Hop artist Muhammad, Dance sensation Westgate, underground DJs Hideo & Tony Jr. and R&B/Dance Diva, Bridget. Rounding out this collection of the "Best of the West" is hyperdiscs' own CAGFACE with Daisuke Hinata, and Space Junkies, co-produced by Hinata and Babyface, Snoop Dogg producer Craig Williams.
